This skillful sized collection of poetry had some very good entries, just almost all of the poems were very old (earlier the 1920s!). While this gives us a skilful cantankerous department of the better poems of Emily Dickinson and Longfellow, it besides focuses heavily on more sentimental poets like Edgar Invitee and other very little known writers, including Christopher Morley'due south "The Plumpuppets". The illustrations are besides overly sentimental and from the early 1900s. I'm really torn on this i, since there are some really good poems; some are so sappy. The biggest problem is the section on humor-- rather dated.

This is a little tricky. I wish the title of this volume had been different (besides the fact that my version says 120 poems) - it says "the world'due south all-time-loved poems." Setting bated the fact that these are all in English so apply of "world" seems odd, most of these poems are very old - so it's smashing that some are classics, but at that place are a lot that would have been included in a collection from over 100 years ago... and few that are more than contempo. So it'due south presumably bully to expose a kid to Dickinson, Wordsworth, and some Lewis Carroll, I suppose, merely I didn't need quite so much Christina Rossetti... There were two poems by Maya Angelou, only this collection was the to the lowest degree diverse that I can recall reading.

I recall Glorya did a wonderful job of putting archetype poems in with others and in such a way it made information technology like shooting fish in a barrel to read to fiddling ones. My kids loved being read poems from this volume. The book I have has 120 poems the time of this ane says 50, even so the comprehend art is the same...

Good collection of poems with pop authors and some well-known writings, merely a couple of poems I skimmed over for existence long and boring. Our family enjoyed reading most of them!

Read-Aloud Poems - This volume is a collection of beautiful poems for children of all ages. The selection is wonderful and includes a wide range of poems and verses –some well known and others not so well known. They are divided into sections like 'Merely Me', 'Laughing Lyrics', 'Poems That Tell Stories', and more than. The book also includes cursory notes with interesting facts virtually the poet and sometimes the poem.
I have read the story of the Pied Piper many a time merely never realized till now that information technology was really a verse form written by Robert Browning.
I enjoyed all the poems in the volume-all are beautifully written, some made me laugh, others made me retrieve, and all of them left me in awe of the wonders of words.
The illustrations accompanying the poems in this book are by themselves to exist enjoyed and treasured. They were specifically requested artwork for this book. The book includes a childhood favorite of mine 'The Owl and the Pussycat' (thank you to my English language teacher for making u.s.a. learn this verse form by heart).
I at present have quite a few new favorites – as well many to include all here but I have one of the poems here:
Just Me - By Margaret Hillert

Nobody sees what I can see,
For back of my eyes at that place is only me.
And nobody knows how my thoughts begin,
For there'southward only myself within my skin.
Isn't is strange how everyone owns
Just enough peel to cover his bones?
My begetter's would be too big to fit-
I'd be all wrinkled within of it.
And my infant brother'south is much also small-
Information technology just wouldn't cover me up at all.
Just I feel just correct in the peel I wear,
And in that location's nobody like me anywhere.

This book is definitely a great book to read-aloud with your children and to introduce them to the wonders of linguistic communication and beautiful writing.

I owned a volume very similar to this collection when I was a child. Information technology was a rather hefty, beautifully illustrated volume of the best nursery rhymes ever. I treasured it. A gift my grandparents gave me, I nonetheless treasure it today.

Every child needs this volume. Kids today aren't exposed to classic poetry enough, if at all. I see it in my classroom, and sadly, I run across it in my own sons. So many literary references are lost, and later accept to exist taught, due to this inexposure.

            Highly recommended.

This book is a collection of poems about animals and insects, family, friendship and honey, the earth and the sky, poems that tell stories, poems to ponder, poems that let students to pretend, poems with laughing lyrics and poems just near me. These short and classic poems are great to read with children of any age. Most of the poems use rhyming in them. These poems would be not bad to use when teaching verse writing or when education a sure subject, for example if doing a unit on animals yous could read different poems about animals.

A cute, cute collection of poets from a wide range of well-known poets that children should know and have in their reading toolbox. Each poems serves as a wonderful introduction to the poets presented. Nicely packaged in subject/theme arrangement (I'm thinking children would like the fun and silly poems presented). I'm a big fan of the ballsy/story poems presented within the drove. I'd love to see this one in homes where parents and children are reading together.
